Have you looked at their new non-FreePBX version 3.0 alpha any?? I have been watching to see how that develops. Also, I assume you are using Trixbox Pro at your work? I finally force converted all my remaining Trixbox CEs to FreePBX Distro last fall (only 5 of them still on CE). So far, I have been pleased. I do like Elastix approach to a more unified communication experience though. Just nervous that the new GUI will suffer a lot "from scratch" issues. FreePBX has had a lot of years of development invested. Still, to even have such choices rocks!

Oops, meant to say that Elastix includes FreePBX; thus the identical behavior. Today's 'phone scammers' have learned to fake Caller ID and will seldom if ever call from the same apparent number. I use *32 frequently, and for any phone scammer that doesn't change their 'source IP address', er, Caller ID number, they are permanently blocked. I do like that the blacklist doesn't require a 'reload' of Asterisk and simply takes place immediately. It is also SWEET to have someone call with an arrogant attitude (which has only happened once to me) and to be able to tell them I'm busy and can help them in a few minutes. Looking at the call logs, the caller tried for months to get through. Every attempt was a completed call (cha-ching!!!) and received the 3-tone alert, plus the nice lady telling them the number was not in service. At work where we have a Trixbox (soon to upgrade to Elastix) I have done a bit of programming so anyone calling a DID extension we don't have attached to a local extension will receive the 3-tone sequence followed by Allison Smith (http://www.theivrvoice.com/) saying the extension is not yet in service. All I have to do is hit *32 after an unwanted call comes in and FreePBX adds it to the blacklist table. When a blacklisted number comes in, it get the "no longer in service" message. Freepbx also has it accessible in the web admin too. Ever since I have ported my home and office numbers to VoIP (in my case, Vitelity), and started using the blacklisting, we have been largely free of these calls. Likewise, I religiously *32 them now too. Love it! I receive very few telemarketer calls. I'm running Elastix, and what callers hear when they dial my number is Charles the Electronic Butler (with a suitable British accent) who greets them, reminds them the call may be monitored or recorded, then passes the call to the appropriate ring group. Many times I'll hear one ring and the call is abandoned. Do these people think they've reached voice mail, or are they just a wee bit shy of Charles recording their dulcet tones? Whatever it is, it's seldom they remain on line long enough to leave voice mail. On Wed, Jan 29, 2014 at 10:59 AM, Steven S. They seem to also bounce around from number to number. I have found it doesn't help me to get worked up over their calls, but it has been fun getting them worked up over it. My fun has been going ahead and pressing 1 to talk to someone. They rattle off the opening speal again, and then I prod them for what cards they think they can help me with. They usually rattle off the card processors, Visa, Mastercard, Discover. Here is where I have to be creative. The only "card" I have is a 4 years no interest loan for having bought a nice bed. It shows up on my credit report as a consumer credit card with a limit of the original loan. Before anyone wants to counsel me on this, I am paying way ahead of schedule and about 1.5 times minimum payment to clear it fast and well before the interest can be charged to me. Only other debt I have is my house, and a line of credit with my bank. My experience so far has been a couple getting wise quickly and saying something like, "Why did you press 1". Followed quickly by a hang up. I have had one just hang up without commenting. Figured at some point they would see enough calls connected to an agent and not "completed" that they would stop calling. -- Steven Critchfield [email protected] -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "NLUG" group.
