RC4 is supposed to lead up to version 1.1. Since there is already a
tarball called 1.1 floating around, I think you should turn 1.1-RC4 into
1.2-RC4, then call the formal release 1.2. You can see the confusion this
has already created and there isn't even a release yet.

Then don't make such changes. Start your tenure out with a release called
1.2. That puts all previous versions in the past, with no potential for
confusion. Heck, you could get all modern and call it nmh2005 ;)
