I might put words in Yehuda's mouth, but he doesn't like browser code in NPM because it forces you to use CommonJS for your browser code, and he doesn't want to use CommonJS. http://pmuellr.blogspot.com/2011/11/debugging-concatenated-javascript-files.html is a decent overview of sourceURL.
