This is a fun app, no doubt about it. I managed to mix several tracks in a session from sources(mic and synth) through in mixer tracks to timeline tracks, then through out mixer tracks to the export track for final levels, and everything worked well. I like the groupings(I made in and out groups) on the mixer as it made it less confusing to hook everything up in qjackctl.
