Bhopal, Sep 9 (IANS) Cases have been registered against around 150 army men from Mhow, a cantonment town near Indore in Madhya Pradesh, for rioting and obstructing government servants in Indore, police said Wednesday. The incident occurred after two army officers were beaten up for objecting to ragging in a medical college. The army men allegedly broke window panes and ransacked furniture of Sri Aurobindo College of Medical Sciences (SAIMS), Indore, late Monday in retaliation against medicos allegedly attacking two of their colleagues earlier in the day. “Around 140-150 army men have been booked for rioting and obstructing government servants. They were also booked for attempting to commit robbery when armed with deadly weapons. They even tried to snatch a mobile phone from a senior police officer after their photographs were clicked,” Banganga police station in-charge R.L Bhadoria said. Police had earlier arrested two students of SAIMS and booked eight others for abusing, rioting and beating two officers from Mhow’s Infantry School. The two officers were dropping off a student at the medical college and had objected to alleged ragging in the college, when they were attacked. The retaliatory action by the army men occurred though the police, acting on the complaint of Lt. Ramandeep Singh Negi, had registered cases against 10 college students under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and had arrested two of them, police officers pointed out.
