A first-year law (LLB) student at Mewar Management Institute here has
alleged ragging and physical torture by senior students.

Vivek Tiwari (19), son of a Supreme Court lawyer, was allegedly ragged
by seniors and brutally thrashed, said police.

Vivek’s father, Dr Vinod Tiwari, has lodged a complaint at the
Indirapuram police station and demanded strict action against the
college chairman and senior students, police said.

“This happened on August 21 and was also repeated two days back. When I
reached college at my son’s behest, he had already been handed over the
fee-refund,” said Vinod Tiwari.

“When I asked them the reason for expelling my son, college chairman
Ashok Gadia misbehaved with us and threatened us. I want proper action
into the matter as no action has been taken against the incident.”

When contacted, college chairman Ashok Gadia termed the police
complaint as ‘fake’. “The incident never happened inside the college
campus. This student is under depression. We have refunded the fee with
mutual consent and in the interest of the child,” said Subhankar Dutta,
Deputy Director.

Victim Vivek Tiwari said he was beaten up badly by seniors as he did
not succumb under pressure. “Earlier, the college authorities covered
up the matter, saying students clashed over a girl.”

“ They told me to resolve the matter but it happened again. The college
is protecting senior students from influential families,” he alleged.

“Police will act strict if ragging is found out,” SSP Akhil Kumar told
HT.
