HYDERABAD: Police registered cases of ragging against three B Tech
students of JNTU on Monday. First year civil engineering student K
Nageswar Rao, hailing from Kambhalapally in Devarakonda mandal in
Nalgonda district, lodged a complaint with the Kukatpally police
alleging that three of his seniors were ragging him.

According to the police, the accused were III and IV year students
staying at Manjeera hostel. They said that on Sunday night the accused
called Nageshwar Rao to their room and asked him to consume liquor.

"According to the complainant, the seniors blew cigarette smoke on his
face and asked him to shave his moustache," Kukatpally ACP K Sridhar
Rao said. The ACP said that cases were registered against the trio
under sections 3 and 4 of the Andhra Pradesh Prohibition of Ragging
Act, 1997. "We are trying to locate the accused," he added.

The university has constituted a committee to inquire into the
incident. "The committee will report on Tuesday and the university will
act accordingly," said Ramana Rao, principal of the college of civil
engineering.

All the accused recently got job offers from private companies in the
campus placement drive.
