Why do you supply a .zip version that possibly overwrites user's specific
preferences?
- shortcuts.xml
plugins\
- SpellChecker.ini
- Compare.ini
Those are only the files that are different from my current v4.8.2 version.
(I also use the latest Compare Plug-In, for instance.)
Wouldn't it be better to at least warn that using the .zip version may result
in losing current custom settings?

With v4.8.5, when I press the End key, the cursor moves to the start of the
next line, instead of the end of the current line. Also, the Home key moves
the cursor to the absolute beginning of the line and not the first
non-white-space
character.

Also, the column mode or block select bug reported earlier, is still there.

Well, there are not major changes to be v4.9, but a few of crash bugs fixed
from v4.8.2, so this version number is taken.
I don't think it's inconvenient while the version number is increased (but not
decreased :) ).

RC is for unzipping in a different empty directory and for testing.
The installer won't replace your xml file.
Whereas plugins, in installer you have to uncheck the plugins that you don't
want their settings are replced.

I just bring back old behaviour of HOME/END in Notepad++.

It's the change of Scintilla column mode selection behaviour, that I can do
nothing about it.
One tip : just make crlf characters invisible before the column mode selection.
It will cure your problem.

But one other thing. When I copy all files from the RC archive to the Notepad++
directory it ignores the previous history of opened files list. If I only copy
the new exe file from the RC over the v4.7.2 Notepad++ directory it opens the
previous opened fles correctly. What's changed in the other files to make this
happens?

Interesting idea
when a correct tamplate name is given like:
cpp
it works ok though if you input cpp.template then the programm crashes
Also it is as me think more useful if it would create a new file with template
instead of adding a template to the currently open.
So definitely useful plugin if you make it a bit more perfect.
