As I was registering to create this message, Notepad++ crashed destroying all
my open documents. Anyway, one to add to my list of functions to make life a
lot easier. Perhaps some are already there and somebody could point me the way
on how to use it:
* Auto-save open documents in a temp directory. Closing Notepad++ would then
not require individual save per file (makes no sense when you're developing
software and a lot of sense when you use Notepad++ as a doodle pad)
* CTRL+TAB AND CTRL+SHIFT+TAB just cycles through the tabs of the open
documents.
No "previous" document, no annoying little popup just cycling. Right now, it's
useless to me. Eclipse has the same kind of approach. Perhaps it's a Java
disease.
* Auto format code. It would be aweseome if XML and other type of code could
be auto formatted in much the same way as the Eclipse auto format works at the
touch of a button. It should be possible to preselect an autoformatting style
and not have to go through menus.
* Find in files should allow you to replace as well.
* Allow Bold/Italics/Underline in text files (perhaps possible already). I
understand
if everybody shouts at me now "it's a development tool, not a text editor!"
Oh wait, it *is* a text editor. :-) All goes back to my use of Notepad++ as
a doodle pad.
* When a C++ error/explosion occurs, allow you to save your files first or some
kind of more graceful exit.
Other than that, I'm quite happy.
Cheers,
Marc

"Features that would make my life easier"
Is your life so bad?
In addition to what I wrote before, please use the title space for your thread
by putting words there that are distinctive/selective and make sense. A thread
only titled "bug" or "request" will have a low triggering value. Please
be descriptive so also visitors who are new to the forum can understand what
the thread is (likely to be) about.
Also consider, after having searched the forum and not finding any similar
thread,
question or answer, creating threads dealing with one subject only. This means
that any of the features you suggest, would, if not already dealt with before,
get their own thread. This also helps in getting less and better find results
out of the search engine.

It would be nice if the installation process would _ask_ you if you want to
keep the Hex Editor, instead of telling it will delete it and doing so.
I have to copy it back with each new release.
Luckily, I always have a back-up at hand, but this could be very annoying when
one doesn't.

I recently upgraded to 4.9.1 from 4.8.5. I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 and of course
running Npp with wine. For some reason since upgrading I have a find bar below
the text window and above the status bar. There is a 'X' button on the far left,
but it does not close it. I have dug all through the preferences and menus and
I see no way to get rid of it, or that it should even exist. Perhaps I'm missing
something, but can someone tell me how to get rid of it? It also sits on top
of text lines in the program so I can't see the last few lines of code. Maybe
I'm missing something blatantly obvious and if so feel free to smack me lol,
but I want this thing gone.
Here's a screenshot to really show the bar:

Looks like the instructions haven't been updated to match the current version.
This should clear it up.
1. "View->Tool Bar->Enlarge me" should be "Settings->Preferences->Global->"
Select Big icons or Small icons, not Small standard icons. If you had Small
standard icons
selected, you must choose Big icons before selecting Small icons or they
won't display
properly.
2, The folder to put the toolbarIcons.xml file in depends on how you installed
the program.
If you see doLocalConf.xml in the Notepad++ folder, then that is where you
must put the
toolbarIcons.xml file. If you don't see that file, then use
%appdata%\Notepad++
You also must restart Notepad++ for the change to take affect.
HTH
Jerry

Opps, didn't quite test every thing. If you choose small icons, they won't
display
well after you close and reopen Notepad++
Looks like you have to use Big icons, or change it every time you start the
program.

In version 4.9.1 code highlight don't occurs automatically, for example after
open a archive previously saved with .as (actionScript) extension.

use this:
Search: c:(\\)test\\.*\.txt
replace: c:\1test\1afile.txt
The first backslash is stored as tag parameter 1. You then use \1 where ever
you need the backslash.
You can also use capital letters after the \;
replace: c:\Test\Afile.txt
will work fine, and at least in Windows, c:\test is the same as c:\Test

[BUG] Copy/Paste in UTF-8 v4.9.1
Hi,
There is a bug when copying and pasting text with special (regional) characters
using UTF-8 text encoding.
It appears when copying text between npp and other application, and doesn?t
matter which way.
When copying and pasting text internally in npp, the bug appears only when
combining
of using ctrl+c & shift+insert or ctrl+insert & ctrl+v.
Example:
I have text: ??
ctrl+c & shift+insert: ????
ctrl+insert & ctrl+v: B9EA
It seems like there is some kind of ?on the fly? conversion from UTF-8
to ANSI while copying text with ctrl+c and ?on the fly? conversion from
ANSI to UTF-8 while pasting text with ctrl+v.
I think this is a reason why ctrl+c in conjunction with ctrl+v works fine,
ctrl+insert and shift+insert are probably bug free.
This behaviour is a little bit annoying to me, because I often use ctrl+c to
copy and than shift+insert to paste.
I want to remind also some other bugs, that I mentioned in this post:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=2027048&forum_id=331753
Regards,
Warmo
