I want to preserve all old copies of files.
Under Settings, preferences, backup/autocomplete, I set
Verbose, Custom directory = . (ie, used date/time backups, keep backups in
the same directory)
This works, in general, creating files like
Erm02.txt.2008-09-12_133456.bak
However, if my files is in the root (c:\) I get backups like
.2008-09-12_133456.bak
It appears that the backup logic doesn't work when there is no directory name
in the path. I kinda recall having this problem myself, some where in my
distant
developer past, and having to handle the root directory as a special case.
I'm using notepad++ 5.0.3. Just checked 4.8.5, same problem.

I work with php sites and use ftp-syncA plugin, everything fine exept I have
to reconnect to ftp server again ana again, it's annoying. How to avoid this.

Is there a way to pass ruby environment variable so that np++ can execute ruby
code in a terminal or cmd window on windows?
Also I cannot get autocomplete to work.

A feature request please...
Add UP and DOWN buttons to the "Windows" window to move tabs up and down for
additional and easier tabs rearrangement.

Is it possible to have auto-indent be invoked only for the line immediately
below the indented line? I.e. is it possible to have auto-indent only happen
if you hit ENTER on a line that's indented?
They way auto-indent works for me (with version 5.0.3) is to auto-indent if
the last text was indented, regardless of how far up in the file that text is.
Say for example I have an indented line. I go 10 lines down from this line,
so that there's nothing but white space for 10 lines. On this 10th line the
cursor all the way to the left margin since I haven't entered any text. I now
hit ENTER and the cursor jumps down a line (as it should) and auto-indents.
It's this auto-indentation I'd like to stop.
My needs are very simple. All I want is auto-indentation for the line
immediately
following an indented line. Can Notepad++ do this?

Hi, all.
I'm sure notepad++ is exelent for those who know what they're doing, but for
people who are new to html, and programing its confusing....well, Ive found
it confusing
I have been looking for a simple text editor, that I could change the size,
colour, style of text I can paste where I need. I thought I'd found the perfect
tool in notepad++. I am disapointed, because after hours of playing around with
it, I still cant understand how to do what I need to do.
The biggest reason I need a simple text editor is for sending messages,
bulletins
etc in myspace. (for our band) and need to change the colour of a few words
or make some bigger than others.
I thought notepad++ would help me, so I just had to type my message, highlight
the word/s I need to change the font/size/colour of and notepad++ would give
me the codes, instead of me having to type out the whole code myself.
Can notepad++ help me with this?

Not the way you put it. And it wouldn't be my choice either although I don't
have to choose since I use programs like Dreamweaver.
I think you want a WYSIWYG. Microsoft Word lets you save as HTML so you don't
have to know much. That is the general direction I would start.

You can create an entry in the Run menu to run the current file in cmd by
editing
[NP++AppDir]\shortcuts.xml (where [NP++AppDir] is the Notepad++'s application
directory in your personal settings folder)and adding a node
in UserDefinedCommands:
<Command name="Launch in cmd" Ctrl="no" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="116">cmd /K
$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)</Command>
This will add an entry: "Launch in cmd", bind it to F5, open a cmd prompt (which
won't close after the program exits) and runs the current file.
Windows needs to associate the ruby file extension with the ruby interpreter,
but this will make it generic for any given scripting language that you have
available (or you can use "cmd \K ruby $(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)" to force it to
use the ruby interpreter).

I agree that this would be a nice feature. At least it should maintain the
same indentation as the previous line, including if the previous line was only
whitespace, in which case it would just copy the whitespace from that line to
the new line.
It gets rather annoying when I'm writing up python scripts and I finish one
function and want to start a new one, and I hit <enter> <backspace> <enter>
(should produce line with same indentation as previous line, but because it
maintains the indentation of the previous line without whitespace I have to
hit another) <backspace>
I think that the cases where the current behavior is more convenient are much
fewer where this suggested behavior is more convenient (at least in my usage,
anyway).

I have the same problem. This is a feature I'd love to be able to use. A
coworker
and myself have been trying to figure it out and it just doesn't work like you
and I would like it to (unless you, my coworker, and myself are all missing
something).
Does anybody know how to do this?
To elaborate on the example above:
1.Line 1111111111111111
2.Line 1111111111111111111111
3.Line 33333333333333
If you do ATL+left mouse you can copy and paste you get:
1.Line 11111111111111
2.Line 11111111111111
3.Line 33333333333333
What I want to do is if you have:
1.Line 1111111111111111
2.Line 1111111111111111111111 //dumb comment you don't want to copy
3.Line 33333333333333
You can do ALT+left mouse and paste it and get the following by selecting a
rectangle that excludes the comment portion but includes all of the extra
characters
on line 1 that extent further than line 3 (I hope my explanation makes sense):
1.Line 1111111111111111
2.Line 1111111111111111111111
3.Line 33333333333333
I've done a ton of searches and can't find a way to do it other than manually
adding spaces to line 3. If it's doable and someone knows how that'd be much
appreciated. If not and somebody knows how to add the feature you'd make
notepad++
the only editor I'd ever need to use.
