That's in regards to sereby.
skipr should have replied directly to Don's original post again like sereby
did after sindosoft.

Thank you very much for the quick update.
btw.: it would be good if NP++ remembered (when updating) what items you had
checked within the installation process (options for the plugins to install,
settings for "don't use appdata", etc.)

He was referring to the "text" (rather, boxes) in the Explorer's status bar.

Hello,
Sometimes I got some javascript-files I have to parse in PHP, so the file gets
an .js.php-extension, and not the default .js.
But, notepad++ only recognises .js as javascript-files.
Is it possible to let notepad++ highlight .js.php as javascript-files, and how?
I have tried to add js.php in the syntax-highlighting options screen, but that
does not work.
Thanks
Marco

Hi MojoRyssen,
firstly, thanks for responding and secondly my apologies for not replying
earlier.
Your third point implies that one can set up a ruler in the Preferences ...
please show me how this is done (apart from the one that is part of the editable
code). In answer to your question, your second point would be the most relevant
solution.
I had no idea that a simple ruler such as those found in typical word-processing
type of applications (I hate to mention the most obvious one by a so-called
famous software house) would be the cause of some sleepless nights with the
potential distress caused by the possibility of 'wet-noodle lashings' ... my
sincere apologies in advance.
>From the response I've got apart from Mr Todd Maurer interest, it does not seem
to be useful to anyone else, but thanks again for taking the time to address
this possible improvement to N++.

I can not only confirm this, but see why it happens. The line in the example
above was not commented using N++ Edit->Toggle Block Comment, or Edit->Block
Comment. It was done "by hand."
When N++ does it for you through the mentioned menu options (or shortcut-keys),
it puts a space character after the comment character(s). When it "uncomments"
it ASSUMES that space is there. This is what's classically known as a "bad
idea"
N++ needs to do one of two things: 1) NOT put a space after the comment
characters,
OR 2) inspect that character when uncommenting to ensure that it is a space.
#1 would be preferable since you may have commented a line with spaces on it,
and just because it is a space does not mean it is not significant and may be
removed.
IMHO: N++ should ONLY add the block comment character(s) required for the
language,
not add a space after.

Ummmm, Yeah you can do this stuff in other ways. You could for example, just
edit each line by hand. That is not the point.
The point is that in column-mode, it makes perfect sense to be able to drag
the selection to the right as far as the longest line in the selection area.
Having each line padded with spaces or not should be optional.
The whole column-editing part of N++ seems to be suffering issues. Issues I've
noted with column mode:
1. With a column-selection active, if you hit backspace or delete, it clears
the whole selection, but you then lose the selection.
2. With a zero-width column selection active, nothing you type appears
anywhere.
This is counter-intuitive and seems pretty useless. Far more useful would be
for it to insert what I type on ALL lines of the selection in the column
position
I have selected.
3. An extension of #2 - when the column selection is more than zero characters,
the entire box is filled with each character I hit, leaving me with a block
of "c" if I type "abc". Extremely unhelpful, and I cannot see any valid use
for the "feature" as-is.
Yes, there are work-arounds. Alt-C allows me to "column-insert" which is the
functionality I'd expect from #2 and #3 above. I'd expect #3 to perform an
"overtype" function. I just seems to me that the column-mode functionality
in N++ is not mature yet.

Disable 'line change state margin' in Settings->preferences->Edit components.
Do, so for both views if desired. If one view has the margin showing and the
other has it disabled and you are editing a document that shows in the other
view as cloned it will have the markers if you are editing from the view with
the markers.
If you have a document open that already has line change markers showing and
you disable the margin you can File->Reload to clear them.

Hi,
In my Preferences I have set that NPP should "Minimize to Sys Tray".
If I issue ShowWindow(nppData._nppHandle, SW_MINIMIZE); from a plugin the NPP
window is minimized to the taskbar and not the systray.
How can I make respect the Preferences?
Thank you for your help and advise.
Regards,
Franco
