@borinquenkid The key use case is reusable domain classes supplied by a plugin. Such a class cannot declare `String id` without coupling the plugin to MongoDB, or `Long id` without coupling it to Hibernate. With `defaultIdType = "native"`, the same undeclared-id domain model can adopt the datastore selected by the consuming application: `String` for MongoDB and `Long` for Hibernate.
