The held list kept the second element as the string 'two', because only an element that was missing or already the map the merge wrote was replaced by it, while getProperty('a.rows[1].name') read 'second' through the nested map. An element that is not a map is now replaced by the map the indexed key wrote, so the list reads [[name: 'first'], [name: 'second']].
