The current setup generates the (original) configuration with the
database and the mail in the same place. I guess after almost 5 years of
supporting a split configuration (with the database in some XDG
location) it would make sense to make that the default. Any objections
from other users to changing the default for new installs (in particular
for changing notmuch-setup?). It would be a nice beginner project, but
there will be some updates to the test suite needed.
