There are a lot of possible causes for this :
fragmentation, bad clustering, compression,
big files, partition near full, etc. Details about
your configuration and how you use ntfs-3g
would be useful.

The use of fuse to interface with the kernel
also limits the throughput : a recent thread on
this list has shown that direct writing through
the ntfs-3g library (thus evading fuse) is much
faster.

This cannot be the reason : ntfs-3g is open source,
and anybody can improve it. AFAIK, Tuxera has
never opposed any improvement (but they do not
give away the improvements they make to their own
product).

Great. I will make available to you a special version
of ntfs-3g which will record where in the ntfs-3g code
the time is spent. This may give possible directions
for improvement.
