Hm, how to determine whether I got the right set of files?
I just downloaded the latest beta-context, unpacked it and regenerated the formats. Then of course the mentioned line was uncommented.
Can this have to do with the virtual fonts? - Currently I still use the "old" fonts.

strange, some kind of nested loading of type-syn.tex
are you sure that you have the right set of files?
