added to the previous mail: german has dedicated umlauts in latin modern, so what you ask for is dedidated (positioned lower) caron's and such; about the small circular thingie, it indeed looks a bit to spiny in latin modern, so that may be a bug (you may as well be one of the first czech tex users looking into latin modern -)
