What is the correct way of using * key with TaBlE? The following does not work

\starttable[|*{2}l|]
\HL
\NC A \NC B \NC \NR
\HL
\stoptable
\starttable[|l|l|]
\HL
\NC A \NC B \NC \NR
\HL
\stoptable
\stoptext
