winpcap isn't a compatibility layer - it's an implementation under windows of the pcap API.
The point is that ntop works fine under Windows - it's what the #ifdef WIN32 code is all about, but the assumption in the code is the MS VC++ compiler. To go beyond that to cygwin/MinGW/whatever has to be done very gently so as not to break what's already working. -----Burton -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Georger Araujo Sent: Tuesday, August 30, 2005 9:40 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: RE: [Ntop-dev] Patches and documentation for building ntop on MingW Hmm, when you talked about the compatibility layer, I thought about WinPcap, not MingW. I agree that people doing serious development stay away from MingW. Unfortunately for me, that's what I have; but fortunately, it worked perfectly for me, and for a good many people too. There are some people out there running ntop now that couldn't before, and that's a good thingC. In the end, I think I made more good than bad - even if little good.
