Ok, I'm confused more now.  I did the './configure' in kernel and the
'./configure && make' in userland/lib and then built the deb file for
installation but the files in /usr/local/lib and include don't get
installed.  Are there any other steps I've missed here?  I believe my use
of make && make install previously was what was making this work correctly
since I re-installed the OS to ensure the deb file was working in a
portable fashion but this is the break point at this time.
