Ok, I'm confused more now. I did the './configure' in kernel and the './configure && make' in userland/lib and then built the deb file for installation but the files in /usr/local/lib and include don't get installed. Are there any other steps I've missed here? I believe my use of make && make install previously was what was making this work correctly since I re-installed the OS to ensure the deb file was working in a portable fashion but this is the break point at this time.
