I am using autogen.sh. 4.0.1 appears to be the latest on sourceforge.net (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ntop/files/ntop/ntop-4.0.1/ntop-4.0.1.t ar.gz/download)

Ie: two contiguous dashes / hyphens with no spaces? Also, If you're compiling why not use 4.0.3? And - are you using autogen.sh or configure?
