I do not own an ER but if I remember correctly when I had the chance to put my 
hands on it, it was compiling. It’s a Linux Debian

This said, do not think nProbe as a flow converter but imagine it as a better 
probe. Standard probes export only info based on packet headers, whereas nprobe 
can give you great visibility for URLs, application protocols (nDPI) and much 
more. That’s why I would run nProbe on the ER as probe+ntopng feeder but not as 
collector for the embedded one
