I used an account from the parent domain (which is in the Enterprise Admins group), when specifying DNS options when promoting a Win2012 server to be a CD in the child domain, and all went quietly .... Now to let it settle overnight, try logging in with a workstation VM that is currently off, and verify that I can log in. Then to demote the Win2008 R2, and upgrade the forest/domain levels. Then revert back to the original snapshots, and do it all a 2nd time, just to make sure we have the process down. Then to start doing it out in the real world ...
