I have installed it several times on my W2K Pro computers, and never needed to do anything special.  Works fine for me.

Don't forget.  On a stock Win2K setup it won't install.  you have to first enable remote registry before it will even install.  I think Win 2K does not default to that, if I recall correctly.  Been there done it.

Yes, go through setup but only install the admin option, then serivce pack it (yes, the client pc) to the same level as the server

Assuming of course you're talking XCH 5.5 and an NT / 2000 workstation (doubt you can do it from a 9x box...)
