The biggest problem with Satellite IP networks is rather high latency.

The last time I tried a test – ping times ran into the 1500+ msec range.

That’s 1.5 Seconds.

So that might work for background file transfers, e-mail SMTP traffic, etc. – but nothing
with human interaction.

Bandwidth can be large – but because of delays – not suitable for some of todays applications
such as Terminal Server, VPN or not.
The VPN probably has problems because of the latency. You would need to tune IP for
this environment in most cases.
