type msconfig in the run box, hit the startup tab, and uncheck the reference to the dial-up app. this also happens to be a great way to clean up 98 systems running too much bs in the background. you can streamline systems by removing pretty much everything in there except you want to leave systray, scanreg, taskmon, and load powerprofile (depending on user pref). afterwards, check out the freed resources in the performance tab of the system properties window. this has fixed more performance issues in win98 boxes than i can mention.
