This is the issue for me as well. Lack of enterprise tools to manage these
devices. Centralised management for deployment etc is a necessity.

We have a predominantly windows environment, it's an issue when a device can't
be easily integrated into that.

I don't see the PC going anywhere any time soon. Tablets are great for viewing
and specialised apps that require little or very simple input.

For anything else you need a full keyboard and mouse. That is until an easier,
faster and reliable input method is available.

Florida is doing the same thing-looking heavily at digital books. However, the
technology just isn't quite there yet.

Color e-ink would help. Most color non-e-ink displays don't have enough battery
life.

The iPad has tolerable battery life and a fine display, but Apple has made it
clear they're not particularly interested in the enterprise. I've got to have
an easy way to deploy lots of books to lots of kids' tablets, and so far I
haven't seen a good way to do that with the iPad.

In about 2-3 years, I think the technology will be ready.

I don't disagree with that, but this is close to the SJRDF.

I know the state of WV has postponed, or is perhaps suspending social studies
textbook adoptions pending a review of alternative curriculum delivery.
Tablets are a key part of that review.

It is my experience that this "belief" is not based on any concrete evidence.
That being said, out district purchased 60 iPads this summer. *sigh*
