It's not been forced on us by the government. Things like CarrierIQ are not wanted by consumers, so once discovered heavy pressure is brought to bare on the companies that use it, especially if used inappropriately.
ASB commented earlier that CarrierIQ had access to the source code of Android, and not iOS. He stated that it "makes a world of difference in what can be accomplished on each platform by a 3rd party", and he is likely correct. But I am happy that we have open source phones systems like Andriod... that allow the world to view the code. CarrierIQ was discovered on a rooted Android phone, was it not? Unless people were able to hack their phones, they would not have found out about it so quickly. If we all had iPhones and Windows phones, we may have never found out. > The only way to partially "opt out" is to not have a smartphone and drive an > older car, because even then when you walk into stores and make purchases > you are still being watched by cameras/banks. They have support for lots of phones, and I even put it on my recently purchased Touchpad. I can confidently say (but I can't really confirm, as I haven't looked) that it doesn't have CarrierIQ in it. --Matt Ross Ephrata School District ----- Original Message ----- From: David Lum [mailto:david....@nwea.org] To: NT System Admin Issues [mailto:ntsysadmin@lyris.sunbelt-software.com] Sent: Fri, 02 Dec 2011 07:21:28 -0800 Subject: Big brother, not many care that he's here. > This CarrierIQ thing brings up a thought.
