Also try deleting all cookies. We had a machine the other day with that issue, it was a problem with a malformed cookie. Having said that, however, +1 on flattening the machine after you get any necessary files off -- you'll never be sure you haven't kept a root kit or some other bleeped-up zero-day widget.
