I think college is about two things.

 

 

1.      The ability to commit and see something to completion. You obviously
take a lot of courses that have little relevancy to your actual career, and
Im sure many people have degrees in which is not their career. This is often
more so in non traditional degrees 
2.      The contacts you make in college may help you down the road. There
is nothing better, IMO, then having a group of individuals studying, and
going into the workforce with similar interests, degrees and backgrounds.
Your paths will cross, and the higher up you go, especially in tech, the
smaller the group.
