I just thought I would relay some info I got from an PSS Escalation Team member 
regarding the Broadcom/Chimney issue. He gives the following more in-depth 
explanation:

"...We have experienced in some cases where hang was caused by the Broadcom NIC 
driver. This driver was making a request for contiguous memory and the system 
was flushing pages attempting to make memory available to satisfy the request. 
While the system is attempting to satisfy the request, all page fault requests 
for
memory are suspended. So this would cause a performance hit. The driver may 
have been making a high number of requests for contiguous memory."
