Administrators should manage their systems with complete integrity, respecting the privacy and confidentiality of each user and the network they have been given charge over. Unless instructed by upper management to do so for reasons of information gathering or for legal reasons, you should never monitor a user's activity without their knowledge. Notice I did NOT say permission or consent. Since the equipment belongs to the company and not the individual user, their activities can be monitored with permission from the appropriate management. I always call my users before connecting to their workstations. It just a matter of respect and credibility. It irked me, so let me know what you think, or what your policy is. Management simply said "It is not acceptable to log into someone else's computer without their consent." Period.
