A good name is better than great riches.

Administrators should manage their systems with complete integrity,
respecting the privacy and confidentiality of each user and the network
they have been given charge over.

Unless instructed by upper management to do so for reasons of
information gathering or for legal reasons, you should never monitor a
user's activity without their knowledge. Notice I did NOT say permission
or consent. Since the equipment belongs to the company and not the
individual user, their activities can be monitored with permission from
the appropriate management.

I always call my users before connecting to their workstations. It just
a matter of respect and credibility.

My 2 cents,

Tom

Subject: General question - Logging onto a user's computer

I just got reamed for preventing a crash. It irked me, so let me know
what you think, or what your policy is.

Management simply said "It is not acceptable to log into someone else's
computer without their consent." Period.

If you see a situation where a crash is about to occur, do you just
watch because you are trying to identify who is actually using that
workstation at that moment and try to contact them, or do you remote in,
displaying a "Netmgr x has remotely connected to your pc" alert box, and
resolve the issue before they crash and lose a day's work?
