What does "hardware checked out OK" mean? Did you run the Windows Memory Diagnostic in Extended Test mode overnight? Can you boot a BartPE or UBCD4WIN CD successfully and access the boot drive?
Machines don't go belly-up by themselves. It takes a software change or a hardware failure to cause this. Assuming the server is properly protected (firewall/antivirus) and not used improperly (e.g. surfing the net), the odds favor hardware failure. A "Repair install" won't affect 3rd party software but I only give it about a 50/50 chance at fixing this.
