There's also the old standby of pulling everything off the motherboard (drive
controllers, RAM, CPU, etc) and powering it up with just PS and motherboard.
Add one device, rinse and repeat until you get a change in beeps or light
blinks. I've had machines start working just by taking them apart and
reinstalling the parts. I've seen RAID drives come back online, machines able
to power up that previously did nothing, etc.

Oh oops...the system doesn't start up at all does it. DOH! Disregard my last
e-mail.
Did you pull the CMOS battery and try that reset? I'm guessing you're screwed,
but...

Subject: Odd Dell PowerEdge issue

Hi Folks,

I have an out-of-warranty Dell PowerEdge 1850. I *think* the power supply has
failed. I had to down the system for 30 minutes or so, then attempted to power
it on. I cannot be certain since, oddly, there are no error lights or
anything. All I get is a blue blinking status light, which is "general error"
according to Dell's voluminous docs. No beeps, buzzes, whistles, etc. There
is no disk activity, but the rear fans come one as soon as the power cables are
engaged.

I don't mind replacing the power supply, but I want to somehow verify. Anyone
have any ideas?

Thanks,
