Adding fuel to the fire: "Personal folder files are unsupported over a LAN or over a WAN link" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297019
"The Microsoft Exchange Server 4.0 team created .pst files with the intent of letting a person maintain a copy of their messages on their local computer...However, .pst files are not meant to be an enterprise network solution. Although it is possible to specify a network directory or a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path as a storage location for a .pst file, network usage is not meant to be a long-term, continuous-use method of storing messages in an enterprise environment. Other Behaviors of .pst Files over WAN/LAN Links All operations take longer. Write operations can take approximately four times longer than read operations. Outlook has slower performance than the Exchange Client. For the reasons mentioned above, Offline Folders (.ost) files and personal address book (.pab) files on a network share that are accessed remotely are also unsupported configurations" David Lum // SYSTEMS ENGINEER NORTHWEST EVALUATION ASSOCIATION (Desk) 971.222.1025 // (Cell) 503.267.9764 From: René de Haas [mailto:rene.deh...@woodward.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 24, 2009 7:13 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Can not open PST files Agree, but.... I explained the thing to a project manager who used them a lot. He explained to me he wanted to keep the emails concerning a project together with other documents of a project. Seems logical. After our conversation he still only connects to 2 of them. Any suggestions as to how we can get him off pst-files and store the emails in a logical way so they are easy to find for him and others needing them? So far my thought was public folders, but that is still another place to store them, albeit a much better place in my opinion. Seriously. Keep .PSTs local and backup the files periodically. Lots of people are doing it wrong. -- ME2 On Mon, Mar 23, 2009 at 8:50 PM, Kevan Dickinson <kevan.dickin...@cmi-plc.com<mailto:kevan.dickin...@cmi-plc.com>> wrote: I know that Microsoft does not support PST's on a Network drive but we have worked this way for many years and I know that lots of other people do as well.
