I have heard of compacting the AD DB, but not as a regular maintenance
task. Take a look at this:

http://www.petri.co.il/active_directory_offline_defragmentation.htm

If you had a very large number of objects deleted and you wanted to
reclaim the space, I would say do it as a one-time procedure. Not as a
maintenance task.

Subject: Compact the ntds.dit

Has anyone ever heard of defragging or compacting the ntds.dit file once a
month?

According to these videos I have to study from, the guy sez once a month,
heck I never did it and non of the engineers here has ever heard of doing
it.

It's not like we have a revolving door here, 2 or 3 accounts a month.
