Very odd.. Okay, so I just went and did what you are saying, and guess what--same thing! If I look on a WS08 server (or Vista with the RSAT), it looks and acts "normal". If I look on a WS03/XP box, it does what you are saying.
I bet it may have something to do with your recent WS08 extensions. Are you working in a parent domain that had to be extended along with the child? We only have a few contacts in AD and I do most of our ADU&C work now via WS08 or Vista, so I guess I've never noticed the behavior change. -Bonnie -----Original Message----- From: Mayo, Bill [mailto:bem...@pittcountync.gov] Sent: Tuesday, June 30, 2009 8:58 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: ADUC Contact Weirdness FWIW, this is ADUC running on my XP workstation, connecting to a WS03 DC. We have recently added a WS08 domain (different than the normal domain), but I don't believe I had remotely connected to it. Nonetheless, I connected to that domain, toggled the setting, and switched back. No effect, unfortunately. Bill Mayo -----Original Message----- From: Miller Bonnie L. I wonder if you toggled while logged onto WS08, and toggled back on WS03, if it doesn't fix the contacts back properly? -B -----Original Message----- From: Miller Bonnie L. Open ADU&C up and click on the "view" menu. Uncheck "Users, Contacts, Groups, and Computers as containers" (in WS08) or "Users, Groups, and Computers as Containers" (WS03 & >). -Bonnie -----Original Message----- From: Mayo, Bill [mailto:bem...@pittcountync.gov] Sent: Tuesday, June 30, 2009 8:35 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: ADUC Contact Weirdness This is something of a minor issue, but it is starting to drive me crazy and my google-fu must be weak. I had been using Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) for like 7 years without seeing this issue, which started a few months ago. If I drill down to a Contact object in ADUC and double click on it, it will behave like a container--it will "expand", the header will show me the contact name and indicate it has "0 objects". If I right-click on the contact and choose Properties, it will properly open up to the properties (which is what I expect when I double click on it). This only happens with Contacts. If I double click a user, computer, or group, they open up to properties as I have been accustomed. FWIW, I have the Exchange 2003 version of ADUC installed. I have re-installed it with no change.
