It was actually DEP (data execution prevention).

I changed it to "turn on for essential Windows programs and services
only"), rebooted the server, and voila!

Everyone is opening IE8 with no problems today.

Also - the server memory is hovering around 500MB available and pagefile
is 4GB

Originally, memory was going down to under 100MB available and pagefile
was 8GB

Hope this helps someone else when they are frantically searching.

Great links!

Thank you .

So after several hours, I have come to discover that the problem is with
IE's proxy server settings (or more specifically with our iprism web
filter - which is our proxy server)

I am still doing research, but if I remove the iprism from the proxy
server settings in IE, IE opens right up.

Furthermore, Outlook will now let the user click on a link in an email
(before this wouldn't do anything).

So I removed the proxy settings, tested IE directly and tested links
within outlook, replaced the proxy settings, logged off, logged on,
re-tested both IE and outlook, and everything works.

The iprism recently went through an OS upgrade... I will see if it can
be rolled back to the original OS and see if the problem goes away.

I have several users with this problem, and I only tested removing the
proxy server on 1 of them.

So hopefully I can roll back the iprism operating system and see if the
remaining users problems go away.

UGHHH

10000 is full load. PS4 will not put any more users on a PS4 server
when the load reaches 10000. PS4.5/XA5 on Server 2003 with HRP3 or
higher handles things differently. Unfortunately, since PS4 is a dead
product I can't use my Citrix support contacts to get you any info.

According to http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX120856 , there are no
known issues with IE8 and PS4.0.

http://www.xenappblog.com/2009/internet-explorer-8-on-terminal-server/
shows IE8 is a memory pig on TS/CTX.

Just some things for you to consider.

qfarm /load is 4200

qfarm /app is also 4200

I think 10000 is full, right?

Just noticed task manager shows Ram down to 180MB, page file at 6GB

Do a qfarm /load and or qfarm /app from your Zone Data Collector and see
what the load on the server is the time the issue happens.

You can also do qfarm /app AppName to be specific.

Hope that helps.

Its sporadic. Sometimes works, sometimes not.

I have a feeling server load may be causing it.

32 bit server, about 40 users.

Does this just happen to one user, or all?

Is the app launched in a seamless window, or a normal one?

Is it a 64-bit server (I remember you can install 4.5 on x64, not sure
about 4.0)? There was an issue

I have a problem where IE8 is published on a Citrix 4.0 server.

When a user tries to launch IE8, it looks to be opening, but immediately
closes before the homepage comes up.

Nothing in event log. In Citrix Management Console, I can see the user
show up, then disappear.

Other published apps seem to open fine.
