Necessary for the 5500G if the dhcp server is on another vlan (subnet in my
case). I don't think I'd need that here, but I'll check the docs.

don't' know about your switch specifically but with Cisco's you have to set the
ip helper address on the VLAN.

Subject: Add subnet to existing vlan

Hello folks,

I have a private class c vlan for a user location. The site has grown, so I
need more dhcp addresses. I have a 3com (now HP) 5500G switch. I added a
secondary subnet to the existing vlan, so current subnet unchanged. On the
dhcp server, which is on the current vlan with an IP address in the older
range, I created a new DHCP scope to accommodate the new subnet.

I'm not sure though the next step. How do I get clients to get a dhcp address
from the new scope? Do I need to add a secondary IP, in the new scope, to the
existing dhcp server? Should I do that on the existing interface, or a
different interface? Or something else?

I could increase the current scope to class b, but I'd prefer this method.

Suggestions, those of you wiser than me on this topic?

Tom
