I've not seen anything to suggest it will. Of course never say never.

My main concern was if it would apply new security settings to sysvol or
more importantly, adjust settings in the Default Domain Policy or
Default Domain Controllers Policy.

Yes, it really is that easy. I didn't believe it either. Just double
check your DNS and replication between existing DC's before you start,
just to be sure.

Subject: Introducing 2008 R2 DC into Domain?

I need to promote a 2008 R2 box to be my first 2008 R2 DC in a native
2003 forest/domain. I've found a few guides but I'd appreciate any
first-hand feedback from anyone who's had any gotcha's etc.

rectory-domain-from-windows-server-2003-to-windows-server-2008-or-window
s-server-2008-r2.aspx

Suggests that it should be as straightforward as running the adprep
steps followed by dcpromo, but of course things aren't always
straightforward.

Thanks,

Paul
