Is this introducing the 2008 R2 DC or just the adprep?
Presumably for "normal" GPO operations this isn't a big deal and it's only if you have stuff in there? I believe computers lose traverse rights. If your GPO installs are there it will bork them. That is all I recall going wrong. Yes, it really is that easy. I didn't believe it either. Just double check your DNS and replication between existing DC's before you start, just to be sure. I need to promote a 2008 R2 box to be my first 2008 R2 DC in a native 2003 forest/domain. I've found a few guides but I'd appreciate any first-hand feedback from anyone who's had any gotcha's etc. http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/archive/2010/02/10/upgrading-an-active-di rectory-domain-from-windows-server-2003-to-windows-server-2008-or-window s-server-2008-r2.aspx Suggests that it should be as straightforward as running the adprep steps followed by dcpromo, but of course things aren't always straightforward.
