The following line makes me think that Jeff Carr's kernel was built to
support the PDM:
"A modified version of miBoot 1.0a3 [ http ] provided by Jeff Carr of
LinuxPPC Inc. [This works with HPV and AV video card.]"
Both the HPV and the AV video card are video cards that shipped with
the PDMs.
And there is a problem with your version of miboot on the configuration
screen:
When one moves the highlight to the bottom last configuration option
one cannot move the highlight back up to other configuration options.
Is your sourcecode of miboot set up for the CW IDE?

Hi Daniel,
I have been using Jeff Carr's version until now since I have not
experienced any problems on my PB1400 until now despite that the
kernel
argument line gets corrupted when exceeding a certain length.
That's one of the many bugs that would potentially be fixed if miBoot
were
to become the community-maintained project I proposed. It need not be
limited to the community of this project, since miBoot is also for
OldWorld PCI machines.
Where do you know from that Jeff Carr's version doesn't work with PDM
machines? The project site says that it was built especially to
support
the PDM AV video card.
I am going by what the project site says. Where do you see that?
Neither MacOS nor MacOSX has any problems with the ISOs produced by
Discribe.
The Mac OS ROM boot code is inconsistent in what it expects for
historical reasons. I only looked at the partition table created by
Discribe, and the special tricks to comply with the Mac OS ROM's boot
code
were botched.
I'm not sure whether Discribe is responsible for the partition table
as
I have created the latest ISOs using MacOS X 10.3 Disc Utility. Disc
Utility seems to be doing some special optimizations when creating an
ISO file.
Here is my attempt at an ISO:
http://homepage.mac.com/danielg4/my-miBoot-test.iso
I created it under 10.3.9 by putting the files into a folder and
issuing
the following command:
hdiutil create -srcfolder my\ miBoot\ test my-miBoot-test -fs HFS
-nouuid -layout "UNIVERSAL CD" -format UDTO
After that, the resulting file needed to be patched for partition
flags,
boot blocks, and possibly boot folder identification.
I'm using Discribe because it is (maybe) the only CD mastering
software
that recognizes the PB1400 media bay. Maybe Toast could be patched to
scan the media bay IDE interface...
I've read somewhere in the web that there is one other CD mastering
software that is told to be working with the PB1400 media bay but only
Discribe is available as a trial version. And the trial period can be
extended by just deleting a hidden file in the System Folder.
Since it is much easier for me to create the miboot CDs with Discribe
on the PB1400 than doing it on another machine I will continue using
it.
What do you mean with "such a problematic version of Discribe"? It is
the latest and only available version for the classic MacOS as far as
I
know.
I mean that the Mac OS ROM may intermittently refuse to boot ISOs
without
a partition map done just right.
I will use your version of miboot in the future. Thanks for it.
Tobias
