Thanks Josh, but I definitely need to do in the context of a python script, although I agree with you, the layer system needs a revamp. As for the second solution, I had seen that command, but I don't actually want to rename the layer, just it's channels. Can you feed it a channel list as a second argument? Thanks for your help.
