Toydist will not solve anything here. Versioning info is useless here if it does not translate to compatible ABI. What is required is to be able to identify a precise python ABI: python makes that hard, mac os x harder, and universal builds ever harder. Things like PEP 384 may help in the future - As it is written by someone who actually knows about this stuff, it will hopefully be useful.
