Hi Aseem,
Just to be clear, "Grok" is a product and not open source.

I assume you are asking if the members of the NuPIC community discuss
algorithms other than the CLA.

We don't have an official policy on this but here is my answer, what I hope
NuPIC will be.

NuPIC is about building intelligent machines by understanding and modeling
the neocortex. We believe the CLA is a core component of the cortex and
will be at the heart of future intelligent machines. From an algorithms
point of view there are two basic directions this research can go. One is
to improve upon the CLA itself, make it faster and more capable, to extend
the CLA and fix errors in it. The other algorithms direction is to embed
the CLA in more complex arrangements as we see in the cortex. We need to
arrange CLAs in layers modeling the layers of the cortex. We need to embed
the CLA in hierarchies, add motor control, attention, short term memory etc.
I would say that any algorithms discussion that is consistent with building
intelligent machines by modeling the cortex is fair game for NuPIC.

However, there are many alternate opinions about how to build intelligent
machines. NuPIC is not a forum for general theories of A.I. There are also
many different types of neural networks, the vast majority of which are not
faithful to known biology. NuPIC is not a general purpose neural network
forum nor a general purpose machine learning forum. There are biologically
accurate models of other parts of the brain such as the olfactory bulb.
NuPIC probably isn't a good place to discuss olfactory bulb algorithms as
that isn't on our path to machine intelligence.

Of course some people are not interested algorithm development. If you want
to embed the CLA in a product, go for it, and of course you can modify it
anyway you want. That to me is more of a product/technology discussion
which is also good for NuPIC.

I hope this helps.
Jeff

Hi,
Do you discus designing new algorithms for grok ?
I would love to learn more about creating algorithms.
thanks
