Kevin, and Jonathon,

If you install Cygwin I believe that uname is already there.

I was having the same problems. From what I was able to find
out/understand and piece together from various sources - the /bin/nutch
file contains DOS code which will not run in a UNIX environment.

You have to run the d2u command to convert the file from dos to unix.

d2u /$pathway_to_nutch/bin/nutch

then navigate to your nutch directory and run bin/nutch crawl... my
particular command from the nutch-0.8.1 directory was $ bin/nutch crawl
urls -dir crawl -depth 10

I did hack my file as per the instructions... and I'm crawling as we
speak...

Scott
Thank you Renaud. I got through that error but another one
unfortunately
surfaced while running bin/nutch:

bin/nutch: line 96: syntax error near unexpected token `do

'

bin/nutch: line 96: `for f in $NUTCH_HOME/build/nutch-*.job; do

'

Am I wasting my time trying to get it running under cygwin? I'm sorry
for the
barrage of stupid questions. I will update the wiki to help out the
next guy
if/when I get it running.

Kevin,

make sure that you have installed the utility "uname" in cygwin

or hack it and replace

cygwin=false
case "`uname`" in
CYGWIN*) cygwin=true;;
esac

by

cygwin=true

let us know if that works...

Renaud
