I had also thought once that we could assume that cabled Ethernet would 
trump all other connections, though one thing Mac allows users to do is 
set the order of preference. (See

Because there are a number of different protocols they support (modem, 
bluetooth, ethernet, firewire, airport), it makes more sense. If  
Solaris supports only Ethernet & Wireless, there might not be as much 
sense.

Of course, the default would be that the Ethernet has priority over 
Wireless.
