We miss you too Ben, and very glad you made the move from Wordpress :) I especially miss how good you were at sharing leads, and know that I benefitted from that.
For me also, knowing that there was a local Manchester/northern community, at the time run by the legendary Dave Verwer, gave myself the confidence to jump from Java/PHP to Ruby On Rails. At Liquid Bronze we went onto produce code for quite a few startups in Ruby On Rails, before it diversified from a consultancy company to a product company producing Malinko ( http://malinkoapp.com ). The first talk I remember was by Kevin Rutherford on hexagon architecture. I also rapidly accumulated stickers from Brightbox, who regularly came over/sponsored from Leeds. Many thanks to those who keep the group going, and evolving. I look forward to working with even more of you, and am currently available if you'd like to talk about how I can help as a ruby freelancer. I'd also be interested in anyone who'se currently dipping their toes into Ruby On Rails, but has other experience in front-end development (i.e. JavaScript/JQuery/ReactJS) or ux/design-implementation (css/html/gfx), who would like mentoring in exchange for help on projects such as http://facebook.com/comadio / http://comad.io or Happy 10th Birthday NWRUG. Here's to the next x years :) :) See you tonight, Ian. -- Ian Moss CTO-level consultancy services. I'm in London now and it's helped me realise what I miss from NWRUG. The open and helpful comradery of the community has been a large cause of my professional development. Knowing that there is an active Ruby scene in Manchester helped me make my decision to stop dilly- dallying with WordPress and become a full-time freelance Ruby dev, a very good decision! As a freelancer I was challenged and encouraged to understand my value and was able to achieve a better day rate, and was given (and shared) plenty of leads. It has been a joy getting to know a number of you personally too. For me, the best part of the meetings I came to was the socialising, sharing news and best-practice informally, and hearing about the interesting things being built. So huge thanks to Will, Adam, Tekin, Ben and everyone else who made (and makes) NWRUG happen 🙋 Ta, Ben On 13 Sep 2016 4:51 p.m., "Tekin Suleyman" <[email protected]> wrote: > We’ll see what we can do… > > Tekin > >> On 13 Sep 2016, at 11:08, Ben Gibbs <[email protected]> wrote: >> >> Wow, the memories and feels are real! >> >> For those of us who don't live in MCR, can't make it up there, but >> want to celebrate, could we join via a Hangout or something?
