As I crossed the Verrazano Bridge and approached Staten Island, a Black Vulture flew over the bridge, headed northward.
In Clove Lake Park in Staten Island, I saw the Summer Tanager in early afternoon. It apparently faviord a berry-laden vine high in a tree near the western end of the white footbridge, The Red-headed Woodpecker was also preesnt, in the oaks along the paved path ca. 200 yards south oif the tanager. A walk down the beach at Breezy Point, Brooklyn, yielded a very white Glaucous Gull that I judge to be in its econd winter, a short distance east of the jetty, ca. 3:30, when the tide was fairly low Doug Futuyma Stony Brook, NY. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html 3) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
