Thanks, everyone, for the info.

Unfortunately, since I was on a tight schedule, I couldn't entertain the
thought of getting off the train at Croton. I had to be in Albany to do my
radio show. And, as it was, because of additional delays north of
Poughkeepsie (trees down on the tracks), I made it to the studio with only
minutes to spare. My question: was the bird in a place where it might be
seen from the train: was intended to offer some help to others who might be
passing through while facing similar constraints.

As for me, I'll just have to be content with seeing several Bald Eagles,
Ospreys, and two Snowy Egrets in with Great Egrets along the Hudson as the
Amtrak train crawled north on CSX rails; and, having seen N. Wheatear
elsewhere in NY State.

Hi Fred and Rich,

Here's a Google Map with various points plotted:

http://g.co/maps/sqd4a

Very unlikely to see the bird from the train, and unfortunately definitely
not from where the train stops to let off passengers.

Once in the HUGE parking lot for the train station (in a car or on foot), go
to the extreme south end, so you can't go any further or you'd be in the
water. You'll pass all the commuters' cars, and then probably some empty
parking lot space (keeping the tracks to your right). You'll pass the large
shed and arrive at the very small parking lot at the end by the small boat
ramp, where the bird has been seen.

Good luck!

To add to Fred's question: Would it be possible to see the Wheatear from a
through Amtrak or Metro-north train as it is stopped at the station without
getting off? Knowing in advance might help a thru-traveler know where to
pre-position on the train to have a shot at the bird.

Rich Guthrie - who was on an Albany bound Amtrak train around 10 this
morning and didn't see the bird : (

Not that I had much in the way of hopes of spotting it. But who knows;
someone else might be able to.

For those of us unfamiliar with the area and the station, can someone tell
me, is it obvious where to go to look for the Northern Wheatear? Do you
follow signs to the Croton-Harmon MetroNorth RR station? Drive to the south
end of the parking lot? Will the "rock pile" and the "shed" be easily seen?

I plan on going tomorrow morning. Thanks!!
